Our cans are aluminium and therefore infinitely recyclable and our cardboard shipping boxes are made from 70% recycled material and are also fully recyclable.

However, bauxite mining (where aluminium comes from), is pretty toxic and the carbon footprint to make cans is initially very high. When cans are recycled, carbon emissions can be spread out across the lifecycle of the can (which is potentially infinite) so they do become a better option versus other materials over time. Currently our cans are made up of 70% recycled aluminium, which is far from perfect but we are committed to being the most planet-friendly business we can be, so switching to packaging that’s even more sustainable is high on our list of priorities for the future.

A lot of packaging innovations can be pretty expensive to start with, requiring huge order quantities and big outlays. However as these materials become more accessible (and we become more successful), our ambition is to adopt packaging with lower carbon emissions and less damaging raw materials.

We only work with suppliers with strong sustainability credentials and accreditations for food safety and ethical trade. We are also invested in becoming a fully certified B-Corp company by 2024.

We are only a start-up and have limited options when it comes to many of our systems and processes. In these early days we’re still finding out what works and what doesn’t, and this makes it very difficult to pin down our carbon footprint just yet.

There are undoubtedly better, more environmentally friendly ways to operate, but until we reach a certain scale many of these options are simply not viable for us. With your help and support, we hope that we can grow to the point where every aspect of our business is environmentally efficient and we will be a net zero emissions organisation.

But to really make a difference, we're supporting charities that specialise in rewilding ecosystems and inspiring young people to reconnect with the wild. We work with the Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity that inspires young people to believe they can achieve more than they ever thought possible through wild outdoor adventures and embracing the nature. We're delighted to help fund their important work.
